🛟 Alphabet Phonétique / Phonetic Alphabet

🇫🇷

🇬🇧

As one of my goals with this lexicon of Acadian French, I want to describe how words are pronounced.

Although the International Phonetic Alphabet exists for this job, I find it very awkward to enter the related symbols for that alphabet.  That aside, I also find it very challenging to associate semantic meaning to symbols.  At this stage of my life, I have no desire to spend any time or any effort learning these symbols.

Since I'm targeting French and English readers, I've decided to create a custom alphabet using standard alphabetic characters, standard French accents, and a very small set of symbols.

You will find these in the "Alphabet phonétique / Phonetic Alphabet" page in Le P'tit Aurèle.  See the screenshot below:

🇫🇷 Voici un exemple d'orthographe et de prononciation d'un mot:

🇬🇧 Here's an example of a word spelling and pronunciation:

🇫🇷

Le "c" de "cadre" se prononce "k" (comme le "c" de "bac" ou le "qu" dans "qui").

Le "a" se prononce "aw" (comme le "o" dans le mot anglais "body" ou le "ough" dans le mot anglais "fought").

🇬🇧

The "c" in "cadre" has the "k" sound (like the "c" in "camp", or the "c" in "cute" ).

The "a" has the "aw" sound (like the "o" in "body", or the "ough" in "fought").
